A Few Simple Words of Encouragement

Scott Woolstenhulme, Superintendent

I want to take a moment to thank you for the way you have supported your children and our staff members through the challenges of this year.

A few years ago, I attempted my first . . . and last marathon. As we came out of Provo Canyon, we hit a long, flat, straight six-mile stretch to the finish line. When I saw it, I quit running. My pace slowed to a dogged walk and I thought there was no way I could make it down those last six miles. Just then another runner jogged up beside me and said, “You’ve got this. Keep going.”

That was it. Just a few simple words, but it made all the difference. I shook off my discouragement, took some long deep breaths, and willed myself to keep going. I regained my stride and kept going. A few miles later I was greeted by the wild cheers of my four girls who joined me in my push to the finish line.

That’s the kind of impact we can have on each other and on our kids. A few words of encouragement. A little support at the right moment. It matters more than we sometimes realize.

Thank you for being there for your children and for supporting our schools and the great people who work in them. Your support and encouragement makes all the difference.

Supplemental Levy Election

Election Day is Tuesday, May 19.

Our community will be voting on a $9.6 million supplemental levy for Bonneville Joint School District 93.

As we have shared in recent budget updates, the district is currently facing a budget shortfall. This is due to two significant events.

Declining Enrollment
Over the past three years, student enrollment has declined by approximately 300 students. Because school funding is based on student attendance, this has resulted in a significant loss of funds to our district.
To address this, we are planning $4 million in budget reductions for the upcoming school year. These reductions will happen regardless of the outcome of the May levy.

Return to Attendance-based Funding
After three years of being funded based on enrollment, the state has returned to an attendance-based funding model. With an average daily attendance of 93%, this change results in approximately $6 million less in state funding each year.
For the past two years, we have used our fund balance to maintain key programs, but that fund balance will be depleted within a year without significant changes to our budget.

As part of those changes, the district has proposed an increase to the supplemental levy to prevent additional reductions and to help maintain programs and services currently in place in our schools.

If the levy is approved:
  • The district will receive $9.6 million per year for two years to support programs and services across our schools
  • Funding will be available to maintain classroom staffing, student support services, and extracurricular opportunities
  • Programs currently supported with one-time funds can continue moving forward

If the levy is not approved:
  • The district will not receive these funds, and the current supplemental levy will expire June 30, 2026
  • Additional reductions will be required beyond the $4 million already identified
  • This will result in the elimination of key programs and positions that are currently part of our schools

We recognize that these are significant decisions and that the tax impact on our families is real. We are committed to providing clear and factual information so our community can make an informed choice. We will continue to share additional information and answer questions in the coming weeks.

Next Week's Schedule

A school calendar for April shows regular school days for K-6th grade and a mix of regular school days, student intervention, and teacher collaboration for 7th-12th grade.

2026-2027 School Schedule

New School Year, New Schedule

During last night’s board meeting, the Board of Trustees approved the 2026–2027 District school schedule, reflecting adjustments to start and end times across all schools.
With the opening of a new school and updated attendance boundaries, the district has worked carefully to design a schedule that supports safe, efficient transportation and consistent school routines for students and families.
The updated schedule streamlines elementary start times into three groups, replacing a wider range of start times currently in place. This adjustment allows for improved bus routing and provides drivers with additional time between routes, helping ensure students arrive safely and on time despite increased traffic and growing enrollment.
Under the new schedule:
  • Elementary schools will begin with a 7:20 a.m. drop-off / 7:40 a.m. start time for the earliest group
  • Other elementary schools will follow in later groups throughout the morning
  • Secondary schools will see slightly adjusted end times, with most schools finishing around 4:00 p.m.
These changes were developed through collaboration with school leaders and transportation staff, with careful consideration given to instructional time requirements, traffic patterns, and the complexity of running multiple bus routes each day.
While adjustments like these can take time for families to adapt to, the goal remains clear: providing a safe, reliable, and efficient schedule that supports student learning across D93.

Graphic promoting the 'Kindness in Action' Idaho Service Challenge for Bonneville Joint School District No. 93.
Bonneville Joint School District 93 is proud to participate in the America250 in Idaho Service Challenge — an initiative inviting individuals, families, classrooms, businesses, faith groups, and entire communities to serve in ways big and small.
For this challenge, an “act of service” is defined simply as:
Any intentional action that provides a meaningful benefit to others.
Whether it takes five minutes or five hours — if it makes a difference, it counts.
At D93, we know service doesn’t have to be complicated. It can look like:
  • Donating used books or clothing
  • Helping take in a neighbor’s garbage bins
  • Picking up trash along a trail
  • Offering encouragement to a colleague
  • Supporting a student who needs a little extra care
Does it count? Yes.
As a district, we are committed to modeling kindness through action. When D93 students and staff serve others — in our schools, in our neighborhoods, and throughout our community — we strengthen not only those around us, but the culture of who we are.
Kindness becomes powerful when it turns into service.
Neighbors helping neighbors: The Idaho way.
And here in D93, it’s the way we lead.

Understanding Intensive Outpatient Mental Health Care

Intensive outpatient programs (IOPs) offer structured mental health support while allowing individuals to continue their daily routines at home, work, or school. These programs can be a valuable option for those who need more support than traditional therapy but do not require inpatient care.
